SHALLOW WATER DIVING AND SPEARFISHING
by Hilbert Schenck Jr., and Henry Kendall.
Cornell Maritime Press, Maryland (USA), 1954.
Hardcover, dustjacket, 252 pages, mono prints and drawings.
One of the earliest diving texts. Covers ‘helmet diving',
‘mask diving', recirculating equipment, ‘self-contained throw-away diving
equipment', spearfishing, diving science, the ocean and its inhabitants,
deco tables and other chapters. The equipment photos are fascinating.

SKIN DIVERS AND SPEAR
FISHERMANS GUIDE TO AMERICAN WATERS.
Hilbert Schenck, Jr. Illustrated
by John E. Johnson.
LCC# 55-10161. 1955.
58 pages line drawings,
reproduced charts, 8-1/2 X 11 soft cover.
Cover blue ink on light
tan paper. Lists all known US manufactures and diving shops.
(Very rare-only one known
to exist.)
The rarest of the books is
the "Guide to spear fishing in American waters," at least so far as I am
concerned. I have never seen another one, and mine is in very
good to excellent condition.
I also recalled that Schenck
had written a number of other engineering book(s) probably from you in
one of our conversations of long ago or recent letters, but never researched
it since I was only interested in his diving books. I was under the impression
that he probably drifted off in to the world of academia or aerospace.
Contribution from Sam Miller,
USA.
